Harrington wins two majors, plus a fifth at Augusta. But otherwise, he has
no finish on tour better than a third at Riviera. Didn't play well in the Players Championship, WGC events, or the FedEx Cup. The unnamed golfer from Fiji wins two playoff events and the FedEx Cup title, as well as the last WGC event of the year. Three wins in significant events, plus the money title. But his 14th at Augusta was his only major finish better than 65th, including two missed cuts. Also missed the cut at TPC Sawgrass. Tiger? Four wins, including a major and a WGC. Second at the Masters, and second on the money list. I don't see any other serious candidates. Kim and Camilo are clearly going to be superstars, but their 2008 resumes aren't yet POY-caliber. I think one could make the case for Tiger. But will the players vote for him *yet again*? Maybe as a thank you for letting them win a few more than usual this year. But I have a hunch the vote will go to Harrington. DJJ |

Don't forget Kenny Perry - 3 wins this year, and a very successful Ryder Cup. |

As you outline, all the others had "flash in the pan" credentials. Harrington comes closest. I had all but written Vijay off for the year until this finish. Rocco is no candidate. Heck, Curtis is probably a better candidate given his fairly consistent play through the year. |

Thought about Kenny. But two of his three wins were in "lesser" events, and he played a total of one round in the majors this year. I don't think the Ryder Cup is supposed to count, as a non-0tour event, though you can't require the players to give reasons for their votes. I just don't think Kenny's resume is nearly strong enough, as much as I like him. DJJ |

Padraig, even though playing great for the two tournaments was a disappointment in the FedEx. Vijay had too many MC's with his wins, and Kenny Perry could have done better at the FedEx as well. CJ |

As for the tour version - vote of the players - I'm not so sure. but I think Harriongton has the advantage just because Tiger has won it so many times before, the players may decide a partial season isn't enough to get yet another.
